Apple iPad 2 in Canada news?
March 2, 2011, No Comments

This morning Apple are unveiling the iPad 2, and of course, Canadians once again wonder whether we will or will not have to wait for it to reach Canada. For some unknown reason Apple always seems to have us wait a month or more (the iPhone took a year) to come out in the Canadian markets and why is this?

The iPad in Canada managed to gain huge sales numbers, with thousands upon thousands sold. The device has become a tool people are excited to play with (and, work with?) but more than that, it has revolutionized the fact that you now can do anything – anywhere. Yes, the laptop too showcased that, but there were always battery limitations. Will the new iPad have a better battery?

Of course, before the iPad 2 is out, rumours are circulating about the iPad 3 and what it will have. Well for now, here’s a breakdown of the iPad 2′s features:

- The long awaited cameras! Both front and rear cameras will be present, as well as a gyroscope.

- FaceTime of course, there’s now a camera so why not FaceTime

- Slimmer and lighter, the new iPad is slimmer and lighter than the original
The iPad 2 is actually thinner than the iPhone 4. It’s 33% thinner than the iPad

The iPad 2 is faster, with graphics 9x faster and the new A5 chip

The white iPad 2 will exist and will ship from the start!

March 11th in the US, March 25th in many countries including Canada!

You can charge and do HDMI out simultaneously

Supports rotation, no setup or configuration required.

Everything you see on the iPad will be output to the tv, at up to 1080. Works with ALL apps.

HDMI Mirrored Video Output

We’ve got some really cool accessories. The first: HDMI video out, via dock accessory cable

Walk into any Best Buy or Futureshop nowadays and you’ll see the Samsung Galaxy tablet, Windows and HP tablets and Nokia tablets – but are any of them worthwhile? Yup. But the iPad still dominates. Apple have the market locked for the foreseeable future.

Another great boxing video game trailer? Fight Night Champion
March 2, 2011, No Comments

It’s amazing when I think back on how long I’ve been into video games, as a young boy through a teenager to a 20-something now and each year I get more impressed by the graphics, gameplay and cinema like presentation.

EA Sports solidified their name many years back and keep increasing the respect that the gaming world can issue. With Fight Night Champion, they continue their boxing legacy and up the stakes a little, adding a themed twist.

The trailer beneath showcases a Mike Tyson interview used in conjunction with the game to promote it. Definitely worth taking a look at.

Returning calls and communication in the 21st century
February 19, 2011, No Comments

It’s astounding to find that people still feel it’s okay not to get back to people the same day, if not immediately when contacted. Especially in the western world where we’re almost all connected at the hip by an electronic device; be it a computer or smart phone.

Sending a text and getting a response between people aged 15-50 shouldn’t be any sort of issue, a text response takes seconds. The only feasible excuse is you’re avoiding or wish not to indulge a person, in which case that’s obviously fine and normal. But when the cause is just laziness, come on. There are few things that irritate me more than poor excuses when you call them out on it, or the forever classically used… “Oh I didn’t get the email…” “I didn’t get the Facebook message…”

This is the 21st century, own up to your communication responsibilities or cut that colleague/friend/business tie out of your life.

Google product wait times?
November 18, 2010, 1 Comment

Okay Google – seriously?

Nowadays so many other sites I visit on a daily basis are loading ten times faster than what I’m used to with Gmail, Google Calendar and the like. Admittedly the waiting periods are worse at sporadic times of the day, but with Facebook so hot on Google’s heels, can Google afford these sorts of issues?

Remember Fun?

Remember feelings? The enthusiasm of melancholy, the rage of drunken peace… How surreal both of those were, are and shall always be?

Listening to a Lykke Li record conjures that up within me, that fire, that raw passion. Maybe it’s just what I derive from it, perhaps I’m alone in my response. Frankly I couldn’t care either way. The breeze of my poorly heated apartment, the feeling of longing waiting for a phone call that will never come, all of those combined make me realize how I just love to feel. I simply thrive on emotion and passion. Could that be the virgo in me? It’s a possibility.

Maybe it’s the red hair? Yup, could be that too. Either way it’s taking me further and keeping me breathing.

The benefits of debt
October 5, 2010, No Comments

It seems like a contradiction, almost nonsense, but debt can be beneficial. Not in the sense that it allows you to pay for things you can’t afford, or settle bills. But the minimum payment plans, though long and beneficial to the parties and companies you owe, can help you plan how to succeed, profit and actually get yourself out of the money trap.

Minimum payments allow you to keep the debt at bay, but plan how to tackle it. The problem is when people indulge the debt and spend endless amounts of time acting like the full balance isn’t what they owe, solely the minimum. Just to re-iterate to those unaware, this is not the case. Stay completely clear on what you need to pay back and how to do it smartly and efficiently. If you owe $2000 on a credit card, have $2000 in the bank, but need money for rent, food and other bills, don’t pay off the bill in a lump sum. That’s extremely awful money management. You’ve already messed up in the spending and now you’re going to leave yourself with nothing? In the past it has been said to make sure you have a minimum of three months worth of rent money, bill money etc. However due to the current economic climate, planning even a little further may be beneficial.

Debt is horrible, but it can help you manage at a price lower than what bankruptcy will cost your life.

Bankruptcy is not an option
September 14, 2010, No Comments

Bankruptcy is like admitting you’re a thief and not willing to pay back what you owe. At least in some cases. Yes, there are many exceptions based on circumstance, but credit card spending for the able minded and bodied… For you not to pay that back and claim bankruptcy, in my mind that’s stealing.

That’s deciding you can’t pay for what you bought and to me that’s inexcusable. Take that debt, and find a way out of it. There’s always a way. Get by with the minimums and find some form of magic, a business that you launch or some art that you can sell (of any form) and pay it back. Your debt is your burden and it’s up to you to rid yourself of it. Claiming bankruptcy is the weaker move, which a lot of twenty somethings tend to do because their spending sprees didn’t go as expected.

As I write this, I’m sitting on close to $50,000 in debt. What’s my plan? To get out of it. I’ll find ways of selling my art, and earning what I can to pay back what I chose to buy or spend the cash on. The interest I knew about from the get go. I won’t make excuses.

Friends holding you back?

Friends holding you back?

When you realize your ambitions and reality depend on your behaviour, looking at your friends can tell you a lot about what you’re doing and where you’re going. Maybe you’re the one in the group that continuously has a thousand ideas for companies, movies etc. And your friends applaud every thought, but never do anything to stimulate that. When you try to start something, they want to get you to come over and relax. Maybe smoke, drink, play video games…

Whatever it may be, it’s taking away from your goals. Eventually you have to make some solid decisions, and pursue what you need to in order to achieve. There’s time to sit back and relax when you are where you intend to be. If that’s not where you currently are, change it.

How Apple and Rogers disappointed the masses with the iPhone in Canada’s launch

How Rogers disappointed the masses with the iPhone in Canada’s launch

As with any other day, you expect that companies and corporations are intelligent enough and plan well enough to keep their supply up with the demand of customers. Yes, of course we understand the marketing ideas behind keeping people waiting, wanting and anticipating a product. But come on, we’ve waited since the initial announcement, and the phone, like previous iPhones, has come out in Canada after the US, UK etc.

This morning I woke up at 8, not too early, I wasn’t planning on being seen as an Apple fanboy or anything. I mean I wanted the phone, but I wasn’t willing to line up for hours. At around 9 I set off, I took the bus and looked outside a closed Rogers store. No customers. I saw the next Rogers store, maybe 30 people outside (bear in mind this was a large phone store) and then I stopped outside Futureshop where a handful waited.

A Futureshop employee came out of the store and started running down the line, apparently they had ample amounts of iPhone 4′s for Bell and Telus customers, but only 5 for Rogers customers. Nice one.

In contrast the Apple store in the Pacific Centre mall seemed well enough stocked. The line up outside continued for the entire mall, out the door and down Granville street. If only I’d put my faith in Apple and not Rogers.

Staring out at Alma

It was only yesterday that I began reading the introduction to a book about the letters of Jack Kerouc. A remark which opened the book, noted that these were the only true insights into his character and his feelings. Back in the time periods when there weren’t emails and phone calls cheaper than the trip to talk face to face, letters were used to express peoples thoughts and feelings as quickly as could be achieved. So, as a result, I’m trying to treat this as my new session of writing.

The catharsis of speaking and moaning really is surreal. The problem, however, is the fact that you can become boring as I’m more than aware of how repetitive I’ve become. I constantly complain about how inconsiderate my girlfriend is and how she routinely is only concerned about what she wants and when she wants. With regards to me, she somehow (though nobody else seems to) perceives me as less intelligent than she, and her priorties seem ours. Pointless anal-retentiveness about dishes, a task which I cover multiple times daily, I’m blamed for not doing perfectly. However, she rarely bothers to lift a finger.

My gripe right now is as pointless and ridiculous as any other that I’ve made, and that issue is about tonight. I suggested playing cards with a few drinks, actually, you know what, even thinking of typing this out is amusing to me. It’s unbelievable that I’m having to confide in the keys of a laptop in order to further delve into my thoughts and feelings. I should have just left by now. But I’ve spent too much with my credit cards. Never allow yourself to drown in debt. I may be fending it off, but if only I could earn what I needed to get rid of the debt. If only I could disciple myself not to want to just be my own boss. Control is extremely hard to let go of once you believe you have it.
