Friends holding you back?

When you realize your ambitions and reality depend on your behaviour, looking at your friends can tell you a lot about what you’re doing and where you’re going. Maybe you’re the one in the group that continuously has a thousand ideas for companies, movies etc. And your friends applaud every thought, but never do anything to stimulate that. When you try to start something, they want to get you to come over and relax. Maybe smoke, drink, play video games…

Whatever it may be, it’s taking away from your goals. Eventually you have to make some solid decisions, and pursue what you need to in order to achieve. There’s time to sit back and relax when you are where you intend to be. If that’s not where you currently are, change it.

As with any other day, you expect that companies and corporations are intelligent enough and plan well enough to keep their supply up with the demand of customers. Yes, of course we understand the marketing ideas behind keeping people waiting, wanting and anticipating a product. But come on, we’ve waited since the initial announcement, and the phone, like previous iPhones, has come out in Canada after the US, UK etc.

This morning I woke up at 8, not too early, I wasn’t planning on being seen as an Apple fanboy or anything. I mean I wanted the phone, but I wasn’t willing to line up for hours. At around 9 I set off, I took the bus and looked outside a closed Rogers store. No customers. I saw the next Rogers store, maybe 30 people outside (bear in mind this was a large phone store) and then I stopped outside Futureshop where a handful waited.

A Futureshop employee came out of the store and started running down the line, apparently they had ample amounts of iPhone 4′s for Bell and Telus customers, but only 5 for Rogers customers. Nice one.

In contrast the Apple store in the Pacific Centre mall seemed well enough stocked. The line up outside continued for the entire mall, out the door and down Granville street. If only I’d put my faith in Apple and not Rogers.

It was only yesterday that I began reading the introduction to a book about the letters of Jack Kerouc. A remark which opened the book, noted that these were the only true insights into his character and his feelings. Back in the time periods when there weren’t emails and phone calls cheaper than the trip to talk face to face, letters were used to express peoples thoughts and feelings as quickly as could be achieved. So, as a result, I’m trying to treat this as my new session of writing.

The catharsis of speaking and moaning really is surreal. The problem, however, is the fact that you can become boring as I’m more than aware of how repetitive I’ve become. I constantly complain about how inconsiderate my girlfriend is and how she routinely is only concerned about what she wants and when she wants. With regards to me, she somehow (though nobody else seems to) perceives me as less intelligent than she, and her priorties seem ours. Pointless anal-retentiveness about dishes, a task which I cover multiple times daily, I’m blamed for not doing perfectly. However, she rarely bothers to lift a finger.

My gripe right now is as pointless and ridiculous as any other that I’ve made, and that issue is about tonight. I suggested playing cards with a few drinks, actually, you know what, even thinking of typing this out is amusing to me. It’s unbelievable that I’m having to confide in the keys of a laptop in order to further delve into my thoughts and feelings. I should have just left by now. But I’ve spent too much with my credit cards. Never allow yourself to drown in debt. I may be fending it off, but if only I could earn what I needed to get rid of the debt. If only I could disciple myself not to want to just be my own boss. Control is extremely hard to let go of once you believe you have it.

So today was the day they launched it, who got theirs and what are your thoughts?

Futureshop tried to hustle me and bullshitted about their being no line-up and I could pre-order, except I had to get there at 9:30 to make the pre-order and doors opened at 10:00AM. At which time they would review my plan and designate the cost. Ridiculous. On top of that they were only getting in 3 32gb phones at the Futureshop downtown. Now my bet is 95% of people buying tomorrow would want that one. Poorly planned Apple? Just maybe?

So I’ve learned anyway. It seems the more you press, the more you try, the more you realize a person’s personality is just that, personal. When someone decides to live a certain way, be it a level of cleanliness or action, whatever, they do so by their own choice.

You can suggest, prod, and even try to force. But if someone wishes to remain the way they are, short of threatening their life, there’s nothing you can do but accept and act the way you should accordingly.

The plight of an artist, or someone like me that believes he’s one, is the trapped relationship where debt weighs you down, and sympathy for your partner keeps you there. I find little inspiring and the fix I get from weed, food and alcohol goes to wasting time. Not my art as it should do.

So in response, why is it so hard to part ways? Why is it so hard to let go? Is it just finances or the supposed pressure of the decision to change everything?

Rogers and Fido doing wrong by consumers by not allowing iPhone 4 pre-orders

Rogers and Fido doing wrong by consumers by not allowing iPhone 4 pre-orders

This is some ridiculousness right here. The iPhone 4 comes out this Friday on both Rogers and Fido (Rogers owns Fido for those still in the dark) and for some unknown reason, neither company are allowing or announcing pre-orders and judging by the fact that we’re a mere 3 days from the iPhone 4 being released in Canada, my money is on the fact that they’re not going to bother to do anything about setting that up.

As a consumer, I’m very much of the belief that if you make things simple, they’ll work. Now regardless of whether you take pre-orders on the phone or not, avid fans of the phone will queue up for it on Friday so they can have it first. The issue is, and this mainly relates to myself, that if I don’t know I’ll get my iPhone 4 in a 32gb size for the right price, I’m not getting in a fucking line. All Rogers are managing to do by not setting up pre-orders is ensure people like myself not going down on Friday (I don’t particularly want a photo of me in a line up on the front of the Metro or 24) to purchase a phone then and there, but to call and find out and wait longer.

Nice one. So now you have people like myself and my friends chanting how the corporate identity you try to look after is actually ridiculous and poor at planning their pitch and business efficiently with regards to keeping their customers happy.

Rogers and Fido, glad you have the iPhone 4. I’m hoping your competitors sell more of them.

And just in case they change this tomorrow and allow pre-orders (such as you’d assume given that as of last month both sites had people sign up for mailing lists for more information… information that never came), this was the case as of 9:18pm on July 27th

Air BnB – Air Bed and Breakfast was mentioned to me in passing while having some delicious eggs benedict at Cafe Zen in Vancouver. I ate alongside a good friend of mine, discussing New York and it’s wonders and how the next time I went I was planning on staying in a hostel again.

My friend, lets call her Miss Cruz, informed me about Air BnB, a site which acts as an agent for people with rooms to rent in their homes. It’s often comparable in price to a hostel (and depending on the area maybe some hotels), but offers the comforts of a home like environment and from the hostel perspective, more security.

I’ve yet to actually try out the service myself, but I intend to the next time I travel. Which, I’m hoping, should be within the next couple of months.

For more information go to their official site: http://www.airbnb.com/

Her followers originally were down at 5,114 when the naked film lady first made the announcement, but upon checking just now, she’s close to 73,000. So her, and her friends will have quite a time setting the world’s blowjob record.

Kanye West – “Last Call”

Last year shoppin my demo, I was tryin’ to shine
Every motherfucker told me that I couldn’t rhyme
Now I could let these dream killers kill my self-esteem
Or use my arrogance as the steam to power my dreams
I use it as my gas, so they say that I’m gassed
But without it I’d be last, so I ought to laugh
